ELOPING IN ITALY


That's SO exciting you're going to elope in Italy!! WHAT A DREAM!


You have a couple options when you're planning to elope in Italy - you can either follow Italian laws on how to legally get married there or you can get married in your own country and travel to Italy and have your elopement experience there!


If you want to get legally married in Italy on your elopement day then check out the U.S. Embassy's website on the steps to make that happen (if you're a U.S. citizen of course)! Here is the link to the U.S. Embassy page about getting married in Italy!


However, many will go for option two since it's the much simpler route! To do it this way you can get legally married at home in a courthouse or wherever you'd like. Once the legal part is done, then the world is your oyster for how you want to elope! This is a great way to go if you're stressed or worried about all the laws and hoops you may need to jump through to get married in Italy or any other country you're thinking of.

I suggest saving your personal vows for your elopement day in Italy so you still have that moment of committing to each other on your special day. Just imagine - sharing your heartfelt vows while overlooking the houses on the hills in Positano, or after going for a drive in the Italian countryside in Tuscany and overlooking a winery with those iconic Italian Cyprus trees, or while sailing at sunset and that orange glow illuminates your faces during that magical moment!


Once you decide where and how you're legally getting married - then the other fun stuff can be planned! Let me get your brain turning with all the possibilities:

  • Do you want to start your day with a sunrise swim in Positano or anywhere along the coast before you head back to your hotel to start getting ready in your wedding attire?
  • Do you want a slow morning getting ready with each other or do you want to get ready separately and do a first look with each other at your hotel or some beautiful place nearby? (For example: you can have your first look on a terrace in your hotel, or on a cliffside overlooking Cinque Terre or the Amalfi Coast, or in front of a well known landmark like the Pantheon in Rome, or out in the Tuscan countryside, etc.)
  • After, you can go get breakfast and an espresso and then continue on with your day!
  • Do you want to go to a specific spot to share your vows with each other? What do you envision that looks like?
  • Do you want to have an amazing experience? Like a sunset boat ride? Or rent a cute little Italian car? Or maybe do a cooking class and learn how to make pasta and Aperol Sprtizes (or my favorite - a Hugo Spritz)? Do you want to ride around in a Vespa (and live out your Lizzie McGuire dreams - lol)? Or do you want to spend time wine tasting at a gorgeous winery in Tuscany? Maybe you want to hike around the Dolomites and take in those breathtaking views? Or maybe you want to end the day jumping off the boat at sunset in your bathing suits - or if you're really adventurous, in your wedding attire?!
  • Do you want to have a picnic for lunch or dinner? Maybe stop for some gelato? Or maybe have a nice dinner at a restaurant or an intimate catered dinner at your hotel or airbnb?
  • Envisioning what it looks like around you when saying your vows to one another and the types of activities, experiences, views, etc. you want to fill your day with will help you narrow down what part of Italy you should elope in!
